Sarah Watkins
MY TEACHING JOURNEY
About Me
Kia ora,
My name is Sarah Watkins, and I was born and raised in Lincoln, Ōtautahi - Christchurch. Growing up I always had a passion for teaching in one form or another and have been working alongside our tamariki for years coaching and playing sports. Netball has always been at the forefront of this coaching career, and it has brought me a lot of joy over the years.
My passion for sports and physical education followed me through to university where I completed a Bachelor of Science with a major in Sports Development and Management from the University of Otago.
Following my studies, I moved to the beautiful Whakatū - Nelson with my partner Antonio. It was here that I was given the opportunity to manage a holiday, before and after school care programme for younger tauria and more recently work as a tamariki development officer for Nelson Netball and as a Teacher Aide (Learning Assistant) at Te Kāreti O Neirana -Nayland College. These jobs have enabled me to see my true potential as a secondary school teacher as my strengths lie in building positive reciprocal relationships with others.
These experiences have also been pivotal in my gaining of key behavioural management, leadership, and interpersonal skills that I will need to become an influential educator. It has also sparked a personal awareness of cultural diversity and a passion for the education system in Aotearoa. Therefore, I am eager to combine my passion for sport, background in physiology and sports development/management with a teaching career in Physical Education/Health.
I look forward to starting this journey with you all.
Ngā mihi,
Sarah
